Garden Fence & Chicken Coop FAQ
-
Garden fences and chicken coops are specialized projects that require the same crew coordination, material sourcing, and equipment setup as our larger fence installations—even though the footprint is smaller. Like any custom fence project, pricing depends on the size of your garden area, fence height, wire mesh type, and any gates needed for access. A basic 20x20 foot garden enclosure typically starts around $2,000-$3,000. We'll provide specific pricing based on your garden layout, market material costs, and protection needs during your estimate.
-
All fences act as deer deterrents, but there's no guaranteed way to completely keep deer out if they're determined. Deer can jump surprisingly high when they're motivated by food they can see or smell. That said, a well-designed garden fence creates a significant barrier that discourages most deer, most of the time. Many of our customers see dramatic improvements in their gardens after installation. While we can't promise a 100% deer-proof fence, we can design a fence that makes your garden far less appealing and accessible to local deer.
-
We typically use our traditional pressure-treated posts and framing with black vinyl-coated wire mesh, depending on what pests you're protecting against. While garden fences can be more custom, we have many customers who opt for a paddock-style garden fence.
-
Similar to deer, there's no 100% guarantee against determined critters, but the right wire mesh makes a significant difference. For deer-only protection, we use larger-opening wire mesh (like our standard 2x4" vinyl-coated wire). For smaller pests like rabbits, groundhogs, and chipmunks, we can use wire with a tighter mesh openings that prevent them from squeezing through.
-
Absolutely! We include gates in most garden fence designs for easy access to tend your plants, harvest, and maintain the area. We can install single gates for walking access or larger gates if you need to bring in wheelbarrows, tillers, or other equipment. We'll discuss gate placement and size during your estimate.

Most garden fence and chicken coop projects can be completed in 1-2 days, depending on size and terrain (and weather, of course). We'll provide a more precise installation timeline prior to your build.
